Colonial Williamsburg

We have spent the last two days going back in time to Colonial Williamsburg,  What an amazing place !  You could easily spend a whole week in this area...the triangle of Williamsburg, Jamestown, and Yorktown.  There is so much to see and do.  Your journey begins as you enter the Visitor Center just outside Williamsburg where there are many options for your visit.  They were having a special promotion for those 50 and over...only time I've been glad to be over 50!! We bought a one day ticket but it is good through the end of December...won't be here that long but we enjoyed the two days we were here.  You have a choice to walk across a bridge and down the path to the Colony or you can catch a shuttle.  We walked the first day which took through a plantation area where we met some men preparing wood for a new building for the colony in addition to other members of the colony.  It truly is another world...John D. Rockefeller proposed the idea of recreating as well restoring this area over 80 years ago.  He endowed the area with the funds needed to make this an incredible place.  Many of the buildings are original or have parts that are original.  We enjoyed the tours of the palace, court house, jail, shoe maker, etc. where we treated to special speakers, highlights of happenings, and actors who became other people!  So impressed with them.  Of course there are many little shops where you can buy wares that are created in the colony...baskets, hats, clothing, metal ware, etc.  Back at the Visitor's Center there are two lovely gift shops as well...many history books for both adults and children.  We only wish we had brought our children here many years ago.  There were a tremendous amount of home school families there as well as many senior citizens.  I guess we are somewhere in between!  Blessings!!
