Boston in 2 days

As a teacher and parent I have been reading Robert McCloskey's book "Make Way For Ducklings" for well over 20 years.  It has been one of my dreams to visit the Public Garden in Boston and to ride the Swan Boats.  On Monday, September 1st I did just that.  We drove into Boston, found a parking garage near the Public Garden and we were ready to explore Boston.  Yes, parking was a bit pricey but we decided it was the easiest this time.  The Public Garden is the centerpiece of Boston...walking paths, beautiful gardens, the pond, the island, and of course the Swan Boats. For just $3 you can take a leisurely ride around the pond...these boats have been operating for 130 years by the same family!  Seeing the island where Mr. and Mrs. Mallard settled their little family was fun...they have a little ramp up to the island so many real ducks reside there.  At the edge of the park is the statue of Mrs. Mallard and her little ducklings...of course I had to purchase a few little keepsakes.  We made our way over to the visitor's center and decided to purchase a two day Hop on Hop off Trolley Tour of Boston.  If you stay on...it takes about 1 1/2 hours or so to visually see the highlights of Boston.  We did that the first day.  On the 2nd day we got off and on throughout the day and were able to see Paul Revere's house, Bunker Hill, Fenway Park, the Back Bay, The Boston Tea Party Museum...excellent by the way!!  Our tour price also included a harbor cruise which was wonderful...the temperature was 90+ degrees and terrible humidity!  In fact late in the afternoon we got into quite a thunderstorm while on the trolley.  Another highlight of the day was to experience a Lobster Roll...so yummy!  We also strolled past the bar that was the inspiration for the television show "Cheers".  It was a full day...highly recommend the trolley tour!
